Final Reflection!
30A – Final Reflection
Highs & Lows
This has definitely
been an interesting semester, and I really enjoyed taking this course because it
was a different experience from a typical business course. While I enjoyed the
critical and creative thinking that this class required, there were times where
I felt frustrated. Toward the end of the semester I began to like my business
idea (Breth-A-Lock) less and less. I found myself wanted to go down a different
path or into a different market. This made some of the last assignments harder
to do. However, while I was doing some of these assignments I would get those ‘aha’
moments. These moments is what made this class so enjoyable, I felt like I was
accomplishing something.
Formative experiences
I had a
few experiences that were very formative in this class. As I mentioned above,
the most enjoyable part of this class was the ‘aha’ moments. For example, my
idea to connect my company to Uber and Lyft to encourage drivers to not drink
and drive and to use my product was a major aha moment. Before figuring this
out I felt like I was in a rut, but, as I learned, sometimes we need to be in a
rut to develop great ideas to get us out of them. Another formative experience I
had was the lessons I learned from the three books I read. I really enjoyed
reading and reflecting on these books.
Entrepreneurial mindset
Before I took
this class I understood what an entrepreneurial mindset was because both of my
parents are entrepreneurs. However, ENT3003 has helped me developed my own
entrepreneurial mindset. This class has given me a better understanding of failure,
it has helped me reflect on my work, and has encouraged me to take risks. I look
forward to applying my new mindset in the real world.
Recommendations
My main
word of advice would be: You get out what you put in! This basically means that
the only way to receive the true benefits of this course is to put effort into
your work. If you care about the work you are submitting you feel more accomplished
and you’ll understand more about what it is to own a business. Embrace failure.
Not everything you do will be perfect, and that’s ok. Failure only means growth
and learning. You can never lose; you can only win, or learn.

Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteOver the course of the summer, you have taken the necessary steps toward growing as a business person which is nice to see. You have developed your business concept nicely and it is time for you to take the next step. I agree with you when you tell future students that you get what you put in. Hard work in this class will pay off. I would've liked to know what your parents do specifically (on top of knowing that they are both entrepreneurs), but this is interesting to know on its own.
I am glad I am not the only one who began severely hating my business idea. I truly wondered if others who enter the entrepreneur world begin hating their businesses as well. I wish I could have gotten those aha moments during the end assignments. I was just unable to figure it out. Had it not been for those last interviews I would never have known what other business I could drum up. As much as I hated those cold turkey interviews, they truly were amazing in what I got out of them. It was truly a pleasure watching you bring this idea along this semester.
