My Bug List

Assignment 2A - Bug List
1.     On my way to school in the morning I have to wait almost four minutes to cross University.
Why: The light sequence on 13th and University is timed a certain way
2.     I have to park on the 9th floor of my parking garage, in order to exit the garage, it can take 8 minutes.
Why: For residents of my apartment building there is limited parking, and the University of Florida does not allow off campus students to park their cars on campus overnight.
3.     Recycling products in my apartment are normally piled in the corner of the kitchen until taken out, this creates clutter in my living space
Why: The recycling bins are located far from our apartment and the task of taking recycling out requires multiple people.
4.     I constantly lose my refillable water bottle and have spent a good amount of money replacing the ones I lose.
Why: It is an item that is easily forgettable.

Why: People become distracted by other things and forget where they have placed important items.
7.     The fire alarm goes off at least once every two or three weeks in my apartment building because of residents and their guests pulling it.
Why: There is no system in place to prevent people from falsely pulling the alarm.

Why: When many students are on the same wifi, the internet speed slows.
9.     On hot summer days, it is too warm to wear sleeves and pants outside. However, cloths appropriate for the weather may not be appropriate for the days’ activities (ie., work or school)
Why: We cannot control the weather, and as employees (or students) dressing appropriately is a part of the job.

Why: No system in place to help me carry my groceries, without asking someone to help me.

Why: Free printing is limited on campus, so many students use the printers at Heavener to print.

Why: More students than usual are using the space in the library, which is limited.

20.  Walking in flip flops.
Why: There is no support and they often slow me down.

Reflection
This was an interesting assignment. I am someone who has a lot of ‘bugs,’ I am usually very irritable. However, when I first started this assignment I found it hard to pinpoint what exactly ‘bugs’ me. I reread the directions and watched the videos multiple times before I finally comprehended what I needed to do to complete the assignment. I walked myself through a typical day at school, at work, and at home and started to think about little things that would improve my day, rather than inconvenience them. By thinking about things that would improve my day, I worked backwards and found the things that ‘bugged’ me.
Once I was able to write the first five, the rest came naturally. Even though we weren’t supposed to be thinking about business ideas while doing this assignment, I couldn’t help myself but to think of small inventions that would fix my ‘bugs.’ This assignment got my creative juices flowing and I am looking forward to the rest of the semester in ENT3003.

  1. You are not alone in thinking about "small inventions that would fix my bugs". I too was going into business mode in that aspect wondering if there was a device, or idea that would fix my bug. I liked that you found bugs backwards by finding ways to improve your day. I admit I just sat down and thought about all the things that irk me, that was too easy for me. I cannot imagine 8 minutes to go through a parking garage. That is just crazy.

  2. Hey Rebecca, great job on the assignment. A lot of the bugs you listed I can relate to. We are especially alike because the bug that was talking about the printing on campus I can relate to! I am a transfer student and at my community college in Miami we had multiple places on campus that offered free printing, and around 15 pages per day! I have resorted to buying a used printer on offer up to avoid waiting in the line.

  3. Hey Rebecca,
You did a great job with your post. I definitely relate to a few including 15 and 16. I can not sleep without some sort of comforter which makes it really hard to sleep when you are hot. In addition, I completely relate to the struggle that comes with waiting in line at the library. One of my "bugs" is when Tapingo is shut down and the line is really long.

  4. Rebecca,

You did a great job overall at coming up with thought-provoking questions and answering them with a "why" that explained why the bug exists. Your answers to the whys were also well thought out. I agree with your number 14 in that I also wake up in the middle of the night sometimes to noises coming from the outside. This bugged me so much that I had to buy a curtain that blocked out sound. This purchase was necessary considering I live off of 13th St which can get very loud. The walls to my apartment are also too thin. One a few of the numbers, however, I would provide more insight. For example, number 20 can include more details of the thing that bugs you and the why behind it.

  5. Hi Rebecca,

I also struggled with my first couple of bugs until the rest became really easy. I also had a lot of bugs that had to do with simple struggles on campus. It's interesting how many of us share the same bugs and nothing has been done to alleviate some of them. I also hate walking in flip flops because I always seem to trip over something get something gross on my foot but sometimes when your in a rush it's the best option.
