Idea Napkin No. 1
11A – Idea Napkin No.

1)
You.
My name is Rebecca, and I am a third-year marketing
student. I have a wide range of skills that have been developed through my work
and leadership experiences over the years. My strongest skills are my
communication skills, my leadership skills, and my problem-solving skills. My
career aspirations aren’t exactly clear to me yet, but I do know that I want to
work for an international company that encourages collaboration and teamwork. The
business concept I came up with in this class I see as more as a hobby. While I
know starting this business would be a full-time job, I would hope that after a
successful launch I could go back to working for a larger company.
2) What are you offering to customers?
I am offering a product that
prevents dangerous accidents and keeps people safe. My product requires people
to breath into a breathalyzer before they are able to turn their car on, if their
BAC is too high the car won’t start. My product is more than a product, it is a
mechanism that will be used to safe lives.
3) Who are you offering it to?
My customers will be those concerned with saving
their lives and saving the lives of others. People who are conscious of the danger
of drinking and driving and willing to minimize the problem. My customer could
potentially be a mother concerned for her child, who may be driving under the
influence. My customer could be a recovering alcoholic who wants to prevent any
accidents happening. My customer could be someone who is simply aware of the danger
of driving drunk.
I have also thought about
marketing this product to car manufacturers. These car manufacturers are always
concerned about the safety rating of their vehicles. With my product, their
ratings could increase, making the car more appealing to drivers.
4) Why do they care?
My marketing tactics will make people aware of the danger
of drunk driving and make them aware that my product could save their lives.
People will want to pay money for my product because it will have a sleek design
that won’t be distracting. My product is a practical product, and people will
realize that it is a product of necessity.
5) What are your core competencies?
My product is different from
all others because it will be one of the first commercialized products of its
type. It will also look much simpler and sleek than the products that are like
this one. As the owner and creator of this business I have passion like no
other. Drunk driving is an epidemic, and my product will help combat the epidemic.
I think that most of these elements
work well together. The need is there, the customer is there and the product is
there. I think that the one weaker element would be my personal experience and
my drive to take this idea to the next level. While I do believe that this is a
great business idea, I do not see myself running a business as such for the
rest of my life. I also think that my experience regarding the engineering of
the product is weak. This product would be able to get off the ground because the
need is present and the customer is too, I just need to figure out the strategy
regarding my end of the business.
Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteYour post was thorough and detailed in that you provided us with an abundance of good information. I agree with your approach to number five where you stated core competencies because you provided your readers with how your product and you stand out. It was nice to hear how you are personally unique on top of hearing about how you differentiated your business idea. Regarding your aspirations, I'd include which route you plan on pursuing. For example, would you like to pursue something in the marketing world or something outside of the focus of your major?
You did a great job on this post. You were very detailed and had everything required in it. I think the concept of a product that prevents drunk driving is a good idea. Decreasing auto accidents is great for the overall well being of the country and its citizens. I think this product can really make a difference and help out.
ReplyDeleteRebecca, I think your business idea is great. Every time I get behind the wheel I am always trying to be aware of myself and everyone else driving around me (those people can include those driving under the influence). You never know when something drastic could happen while you are on the road. I think a product like this is definitely something people would be in the market for, just to be on the safe side. I think you post was very detailed and you were able to get your point/idea across to readers.
